The Necropolis is a beautiful and eerie place to visit in Glasgow. The place is a solemn sight but still a very beautiful one. Greats like Alexander "Greek" Thomson, Bryce, Hamilton and Mackintosh have been responsible for designing it. It is something like a garden cemetery and it is exactly their Victorian design that makes this place so well-known.

The designs have been brilliantly executed with great precision. The stunning area that forms the final resting place of many residents of Glasgow as well as quite a few famous people is a somber but interesting place to visit. Walking down the intricately decorated, imposing graves is a surreal but wonderful experience. European cemeteries are considered to be a very prestigious sight to see and this one is one of the noted ones among them. So if you wish to see the sinister beauty of the place put this one on your list.

  • A beautiful and spiritual place. Definitely worth the walk above the Glasgow Cathedral to explore the headstones of Scots past. Pay your respects and be kind to those resting. Notice the famous graves and names. Take it all in. Imagine the view from times past.

  • A calm place in Glasgow where thousands of people including historical figures have been buried with monumental tombstones... some of the stones/statues have history engraved on them... a nice walk when the weather is good

  • Very gothic, a little spooky and weird for tourist attractions, but surprisingly represents the city atmosphere the most, I think. Can have very good view of the city from the hill. Quite interesting place after all.

  • Nice to walk around the tumbs and beautiful view of Glasgow! Interesting read at the entrance of the Necropolis on its history and why it was built.

  • Unless you're Buffy the Vampire Slayer you probably won't find graveyards very interesting, but in the case of this one you would be wrong, it's full of interesting and spectacular statues , mausoleums and graves,. The site is quite large and fairly hilly so apart from anything else it's a good hike. There's splendid views of Glasgow from the upper levels especially of the Cathedral but you'll probably not notice as you'll be engrossed in the Gothic architecture and magnificence of the place
