The Barras has a very enchanting story to tell. A young fruit-seller opened a small shop here at a tender age of twelve. The place slowly grew and became very popular. The young fruit seller and her husband soon started a thriving business by acquiring land around the area making it into what it is today; one of the most important markets of Glasgow.

The indoor market is as bright and vibrant as it was then. It is also called Barrowland which is the English verision of the dialectical Barras. It is an amazing exepreince to just walk around the place and observe all the wares and enjoy the atmosphere. Besides, there are also quite a few shops selling food as well as restaurants and bars to eat at. All in all, it is a lovely place to sample the culture of Scotland.

Also, visit nearby attractions which are covered in Glasgow itinerary 3 days.

  • A tragic shadow of its glory years in its final deathrows . With both luxury housing and city sponsored art studios consuming its historic heart . Takes the most adventurous and determined of bargain hunters to find that unique item or treasure . However a must go and see while it's here like the Macintosh school of Art 🙁

  • Don't let the appearance stop you from exploring this place. Talk to everyone, people are so friendly! Also you can find tons of hidden treasures if you can ravel through all the stuff. It was raining heavily when I got there but I enjoyed, I wonder how lovely it must when the sun is out! Stop by Alec's stall! He's one of a kind, a truly special scottish man!

  • It's a shame people are not shopping here. Lovely place for antiques, collectables and house plants. Highly recommended

  • Not the way I remembered it. Half empty and pretty run down. Very sad to see it that way

  • was the best in the past but seems to be a shadow of its former self at my last visit.
