The six-metre high Ned Kelly Statue in the northeastern Glenrowan commemorates the infamous bushranger Ned Kelly and his gang comprising of Joe Byrne, Steve Hart, and Dan Kelly. On June 28 in 1880, the gang kept the town people as hostages in the local inn but was tricked by the local school teacher and was killed in the shootout with the police. The Ned Kelly Statue also pays homage to the three police officers who fell during the shootout. The statue aptly depicts the getup of Ned Kelly with his tin mask that was supposedly impregnable. Although a villain, this colossal statue will make you want to know more about this infamous legend.
