Cattedrale di Palermo is a Cathedral church that has been dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The church is characterized by the presence of varied styles because of a long and rich history of alterations, additions, and restorations. The very last one was towards the end of the 18th century when the interior was radically remade. The church was erected by Walter Ophamil in the year 1185 who is buried in a sarcophagus in the crypt of the church. At Cattedrale di Palermo several kings have been crowned and have also been buried. A bell tower tops this historically and architecturally significant church that on this day houses royal tombs.
