One of the most important attractions of Gokarna, The temple is very well known because of a beautiful legend attributed to it. It is here where Ravana, the demon king had to rest the ‘Atmalinga’ statue when he was tricked by Lord Ganesh who at last built a temple around. The temple is built in proper Dravidian architecture. It is said that Shivaji, the great emperor had visited this temple once to offer his prayers. The carved stone image of Lord Shiva inside the sanctum is said to be 1500 years old.

Very very beautiful and unique temple of Lord Shiva in the world . Here , Removal of upper clothes of males is rule for entry of males in temple. Parking is little far away from temple. And temple is crowdy many times.
Don't expect too much from this temple..the temple is simply known for its history..its a very old temple which was build during the year 350CE.there are 2-3 beaches near the temple..photography and videography is strictly prohibited inside the temple..foreigners are not allowed inside the temple..Priests inside the temple will try to fool you by mentioning several donations to be made to them,.there are several shops and stores were visitors can shop..antique pieces, clothes, toys, spices are found in the shops..Rules here are pretty much weird and strict..Goa and Murudeshwar temple is nearby from this location..
U ain't allowed to enter in the inner temple as a foreigner. But u can still stroll around the temple and see an amazing giant bull.
Very nice temple of lord shiva. Better if you wear traditional clothes else remove your shirt.
A devine place.. the but maintenance is not satisfactory... Managing people could do a lot better...
