About Mahabaleswara Temple, Gokarna

One of the most important attractions of Gokarna, The temple is very well known because of a beautiful legend attributed to it. It is here where Ravana, the demon king had to rest the ‘Atmalinga’ statue when he was tricked by Lord Ganesh who at last built a temple around. The temple is built in proper Dravidian architecture. It is said that Shivaji, the great emperor had visited this temple once to offer his prayers. The carved stone image of Lord Shiva inside the sanctum is said to be 1500 years old.

  • Nice temple to visit. Closes at 2 pm and opens at evening prasada lunch available till 2pm. Beach is very good

  • It's a great place with positive vibes.Must visit if you are in gokarna.parking is an issue but you can easily walk around the town because everything is available easily.The speciality of this temple is that they allow you to touch the holy stone.

  • A good religious place with a nice story behind it. Temple is beautifully carved out from a big rock or you can say a mountain. Beach it at a distance of 300 meters from temple. Place is clean with wheelchair entrance. Parking is near beach. Prasad n lunch at mandir is from 11.30 A.M. to 1.30 P.M. Market is near by to buy clothes, hats and other stuff.
