The Gori Castle is situated above the beautiful city of Gori and is a 13th century fortress. It was of strategic importance for several centuries and was also attacked numerous times by the invading armies. Much of the castle that can be seen today dates back to the 17th and the 18th century and was significantly destroyed in the year 1920 in an earthquake. The herringbone patterns seen on the stonework of the walls is rather impressive while there are a few remaining structure that are worth appreciating. There’s a cobblestone path on the side of the hills that leads up to the fortress. The views of the mountain, the city, and the surrounding green plains are striking from the Gori Castle.
