Slottsskogen - Review
Castle forest, better known as Slottsskogen is a beautiful 137 hectare wide park situated in central Gothenburg. It is a Swedish cultural hub with small cottages from many countries ago, a zoo consisting of Swedish animals, a pond with penguins and seals, and a playground for softball, football and Frisbee golf. Castle forest is the center of the Way Out West Festival that is celebrated every year.
The highest point of the park is located in the north, where people can enjoy Gothenburg’s best views. There are potholes which are basically craters in the rock dug out of ice more than 12 thousand years ago! Here the visitors may wander around the paths amongst the native trees like linden, maple, beech & different types of oak. A few trees are as old as 300 years. Azaleas are the plants which do not grow naturally in Sweden but have turned into a hallmark of castle forest through the dense Azaleadalen. Azaleadalen flourish normally from late May or early June for a short period of less than three weeks. Of course, this period alters each year depending on the weather so it is difficult to predict just when. There are several rivers in the Castle Forest which which are home to unique species of salamanders and frogs for all the nature lovers.

Slottsskogen, Gothenburg Reviews
I will write this in English so everybody can understand. This is a huge park in the middle of the City you will find all kind of people here from people who like to run, bicycle, play, sunbath, walk, playground or look at animals some use it as a faster way to walk home crossing over the park. You also have plenty of Cafes and restaurants here. The kids will love the many playgrounds and the animal zoo and birds. Its a one day trip and you will not regret it. You also have public restrooms here along with free maps.
Massive park in city centre. Lovely lakes and walks to take. Open spaces and animals to see incl penguins, farm animals. Has pony riding for kids. Awesome place to spend a few hours or more
Great park. There is a lot to see and do. Didn't realise there was a animal park including a petting zoo hidden up the hill for our first few visits. The feeding of the seals and penguins is a fun activity. Although the moose feedings have been a let down.
Fantastic place to wander around in and enjoy nature and watch a few animals, the seals are always a favourite. Alternatively bring your picnic blanket and food to enjoy on many of the massive lawns. Plenty of space to spread out on.
Think that I did not know about Barnens Zoo! An awesome place for children. Plenty of different kinds of animals are there to see in Slottsskogen. But in Barnens zoo, they get to pet the tame animals such as goats, lambs, pigs and chickens and so on. They can even ride a pony for 20 SEK only. The place is on top of a hill so it's quite an exercise walking up that hill. But it s totally worth it. Slottsskogen is a must see for anyone visiting Göteborg.
