The Eschenheimer Turm is a late-medieval fortification dating back to 15th century. The tower acted as a city gate and is one of the mostly unaltered and oldest landmarks of the city. Nestled in the center of the Eschenheimer Tor, the tower stands on the tunnel of the subway station and is one of the busiest sections of the square. The restaurant and bar on the ground floor of Eschenheimer Turm, the fireplace room and the tower battlements are there to explore. Built on a rectangular base, the tower dominating the skyline was completed in 1428 by the architect Madern Gerthener. The tower comprises of 8 levels, two attics and the roof made of a sharp spire appointed with 4 side turrets.
