The Puerta de Elvira is one of the oldest gates in Granada and was declared a property of Cultural interest in the late 19th century. Throughout its history, the gates has undergone many transformation- a prominent change being done during the reign of Yusuf I of the dynasty Nazari when it was used to communicate with Alhacaba and Calle Elvira.

The gate consist of high arches made from bricks and is part of the fortress around Granada. Take a walk here to see a part of history that subtly merges with the surrounding modern shops and buildings.

  • If you haven't see Puerta de Elvira, do it! Best time to visit is in the late afternoon, around 5pm... So beautiful...

  • Do take the time to pause for a minute or two to look at this ancient gate built during the Moorish era. It's quite grand and has been well preserved. I'm glad it has survived through time. Love this design!
