An important overlook on the West rim route, the Powell point is where the memorial of John Weslet Powell, the explorer is erected. Located just 10 mins away from the Maricopa, Powell Point is one of the best places to enjoy the sunset. A lot of people prefer hiking here as the shuttle bus bound to east doesn’t stop on Powell point.

Powell Point Reviews & Ratings
Amazing views and surprisingly good cell reception. We hiked along the rim from the village to Mohave point. Powell is interesting as well because it has a plaque commemorating Powell's expedition down the Colorado in the late 1800s.
I guess every Vista point is just breath taking in it's own way. Watched the canyon lit up in shades of red during sunset last month. Just take the red loop to reach this spot.
Awesome viewing area with spectacular views in every direction. We visited in late March and the temperature was perfect. We enjoyed mid 60’s with almost cloudless skies. Grateful to not be subjected to the summer inferno. Great tour guides around with plenty of information to share about the Park and the sights. No shortage of history in this park. Amazing to see millions and millions of years of geological progression all in one spot.
A very nice monument to an intrepid explorer with great views of the canyon from the top of the monument itself
My favorite point in the South Rim of GCNP. Astounding views. A must visit. Take the red bus route to reach here.
