The Yavapai Observation Station was re-dedicated in 2007 and is one of the most interesting pit stops on the South Rim. The original building was designed to blend in with the existing terrain. Herbert Maier designed the museum with Kaibab limestone and ponderosa pines. Inside there are interesting facts and specimens about geology and the history of the canyon. There’s a small model of the entire canyon compressed which is superb. You can even hike to the observation station from here which offers brilliant panoramic view of the museum.
