Madison County Nature Trail Reviews & Ratings

  • Also known as Green Mountain Nature Preserve. We have visited this nature trail several times. The good things are many including that it’s free to visit, it has plenty of accessible benches to sit and relax and is well maintained by the staff. The trail itself is rather short at only about 1.5 mile but it circles the lake with good views. The main entrance has always had someone on staff when we visited who was friendly and willing to share information about the park. There’s also vending machines with sodas and the restrooms were clean. The trail is an easy walk and on the last visit on a Saturday in September , the traffic was light. No special hiking shoes are needed for the trail. A sturdy pair of regular shoes or sandals will work fine.

  • I really love Madison County Nature Trail. This beautiful trail/hike and lake offers gorgeous walks year around, and beautiful views and photos will be captured. There's even restrooms and picnic tables and swings to enjoy your visit and stay a while. I love coming here and will definitely be back. (My only complaint, recently I noticed a large section of trail has been covered in cheap dirt? I'm not sure the reason why this dirt was added on top of the trail, but makes it much "dirtier" that it used to be, especially for when the little kids are hiking as well. The rest of the trail has bark and natural landscape which makes sense, but dusty dirt poured in from somewhere else seems out of place.)

  • Love this gem in our city. Such a relaxing and beautiful place to get out and enjoy the outdoors. The hikes are simple and the lake makes for a perfect focal point. Pet friendly and our little guy loved the adventure. Plenty of places to stop and relax along the trail as well. Just a brief ride to the south side of the city and up the mountain. Something for everyone.

  • Great place to get out and walk. They have an excellent trail that is easy but beautiful. The lake and covered bridge are great.

  • A great spot to relax and surrounded yourself with nature. Open trails, wooden bridges, easily accessible. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
