The Gemaltes Haus or the Herzogshof from the Herrengasse Street looks exactly like a house with tattoos, no wonder it derived the name of “Painted House”. The vibrant facade of the Herzogshof depicts a rendezvous of Greek and Roman Gods. The exquisite paintings were first painted by Johann Mayer in the 1742 with a Baroque style and thus the building earned its name as the Painted House. Although the distinguishing features of the paintings fell into oblivion over the course of time, you can still make out Vulcan, Vesta, and Bacchus at the bottom zone topped by the paintings of Apollo, Pluto, and Jupiter. Apart from some mythological heros, you will find Mars, Mercury, Aesculapinus, and Minerva on the top row at Gemaltes Haus.
