Alan Turing Memorial, Manchester Reviews
A monument to one of the most important men in modern history: essentially creating the first computer, invisiging AI, essentually changing the course of world war two and essentially vilified and discredited for his sexuality. This monument is a small token of appreciation and I guess, an apology for the way the world treated him.
Alan Turing workey at Bletchey Park during the War, his group were responsible for the decoding of German secret Codes, he was persecuted for being Homosexual, he took his own life. A remarkable Man, its fitting that they should celebrate his life here. The Small park in the City is Known as Handbag Park.
Well, it's a statue, so it's not THAT exciting, but it's a nice stop during a walk. It's Alan Turing, sitting on a bench, and he has left enough space on both the left and the right, so you can go and sit next to him, should you feel like it. There's also a stand with an QR code, and when you scan it, you get a phone call from Alan himself (*wink wink).
It's a statue on a bench. But a good sit down and watch the world pass by. (Don't visit in dark or late evening)
Nice little monument just tucked away. Well worth a visit. Hard to think that someone could do so much for there country but there country could do so little for them.
