The Liberation Square or Plaza De La Liberacion is also known as La Plaza de Dos Copas that means Two Goblets Square, thanks to the two square shaped fountains on both sides. The fountains ooze out from the goblet shaped ducts. One fountain faces the Guadalajara Cathedral while the other faces the Teatro Degollado. Tucked in between the theatre and the cathedral, the Liberation Square is distinct for the life size bronze statue of the national hero –Miguel Hidalgo. The 4-metre-tall statue holds a broken chain in his hand, depicting the decree on abolition of slavery in 1810. Built in the year 1952, the square is a popular meeting place and landmark for the local people.

  • Great place to walk and learn about Guadalajara's culture, wonderful views and places to eat. I recommend you to visit the Teatro Degollado and the Hospicio Cabañas, excellent buildings and a lot of history. Both have Spanish and English guides.
