The Lighthouse Mosque or Great Mosque of Canton is popularly known as the Huaisheng Mosque that dates back to more than 1300 years. Covering 2966 square meters area, the mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the world and is dedicated to Muhammed, the Islamic prophet. The main feature of the mosque is the 118-feet tall minaret or the Lighthouse with a pointed tip, bearing resemblance to Arabian architecture. The square-shaped Moon Tower with the dual eaved roof is built with red sandstone and dates back to Ming Dynasty. Another notable feature of Huaisheng Mosque is the Prayer Hall adjacent to the courtyard having a rich decoration of western Asian style.
