A peaceful water body located in the downtown area of Guilin is a scenic treat to visitor’s eyes. It comprises of two rivers Li and Taohua (Peach blossom) and four lakes Rhong, Shan, Gui and Mulong. The lakes are named after the tress that are grown along their banks Banyan, Chinese Fir and Osmanthus respectively. The Mulong Lake gets its name from the Mulong cave located in Diecai hill park overlooking the lake.
These four lakes are bestowed with alluring shade of green and flowering plants. The pavilions, statues and stone carvings are scattered around the area. There are 19 bridges connection the two rivers and four lakes scenic area.
The ancient south gate which is a part of ancient city wall is located between Rong and Gui lakes. In the middle of Rhingu lake is an island with rock formations, bridges and beautiful plants. There is also a pretty tea house built in Chinese style of architecture. Visitors can get to the island through the Zigzag Bridge or the marble arched bridges on Rong ang Gui lakes. There are plenty of places where the visitors can relax or take a stroll. Shan lake is a home to twin Pagodas: Sun and Moon Pagodas, which are considered a landmark of Guilin. Both of them being in the middle of the lake, they have to be reached by bridge. The Sun Pagoda has an underwater passage from Moon Pagoda.
Be here during the day, marvel at the nature and slurp the Chinese tea. Take the evening Cruise and you can enjoy the slow boat ride with opera performances, dancing fountains and traditional music.
