Assam State Museum - Review
Assam State Museum is a representation of the unique culture and tradition of the north-eastern state. It surpasses all the other museums in India, as the biggest multipurpose museum displaying collections in a variety of sections, like archaeology, iconography, epigraphy and even numismatics.
There is also an exhibit of the traditional weaving in Assam State Museum, along with other handicraft products, like locally-made cane and bamboo items, toys, pottery, etc. The library of the museum is situated upstairs and is the best place to go, if you want to get any information on the various items present therein.
Besides, age-old paintings and manuscripts are also present in the museum, giving the onlookers a gist of the rich culture and heredity of the state. Among the archaeological and ethnographic displays in Assam State Museum, the ones that are sure to grab your attention are the local costumes, and terracotta, stone and copper plate inscriptions, dating from the 5th century and 12th century.

Assam State Museum, Guwahati Reviews
Indeed a huge museum. Well maintained and covers the entire history of Assam from world war to current developments. Worth a visit to get some useful knowledge about the state. One can spend an entire day at this place. Tickets are also very cheap. Rs5 per person
A very nice experience! Featuring different cultures around Assam. Must visit place for people wanting to understand the lifestyle of Assam! The place is clean but lacks guidance and explanation for the various exhibits. The museum covers two floors and would require a minimum of 2hrs tour.
Nice place to visit but not so interactive. No guides are there to explain the significance of idols kept there. Just their names, finding place and year has been mentioned. Becomes boring after sometime. Another section in the museum showing village life in North East is interesting and appealing.
A good compilation of NE Heritage. TIME TAKEN: We took about 2 hours. PREMISE: Surprisingly clean and very well managed. Helpful staff. EXHIBITS: Totally 13 galleries in all. As layman we were impressed with the efforts. Art historians can elaborate more for the accuracy. Having visited all the galleries, we felt stagnation of display. a very good scope of up-gradation. GENERAL: The brochure can be collected from the reception at the start. Time is 10 to 5. Monday closed. Worth once visit. even if Shillong Don Bosco was seen earlier.
Nice place. An educational learning place. Good for children. Many things can be learn by visiting this place.
