Ideal for a day trip, this UNESCO world heritage site is located 20 kilometres away from Gyor and dates back to thousand years. Originally a fortress, this structure is the witness to the glorious history of Hungary and has a prominent place where important events took place. National movements, peace treaties, Turkish invasion, great fires and number of restorations make it an illustrated picture book of European art and history.

Displaying a huge era from Romanesque to classicism, this fortress of Hungarian Benedictines still has few reminisces of the old church in the crypt. Flaunting a priceless catalogue of library dating back to 1090, there are over 250,000 volumes in the library including the charter of the cloister from Stephen I dated 1001. Also, the earliest record of written Hungarian language is a matter of pride!
