The Maiden Rock Bluff State Natural Area is flanked by Lake Pepin and Mississippi River. Standing 400 feet, the main limestone bluff extends around half a mile along with other five bluffs. The buffs are the favourite nesting place for the Peregrine Falcons. Maiden Rock Bluff State Natural Area is also a migration corridor to many songbirds and raptors like Turkey Vulture, Gyr Falcon and Golden Eagle. The abundant flora that will give you company while hiking through are Red Cedar, Hairbell, Slender Cliff Brake, Slender Lip Fern and White-flowered Leaf-cup. While the open clifftop and the adjacent area is blessed with Dry Prairie Plants including Bluestem, Silky Aster, Wild Bergamot and Mountain Mint, the lower slopes are laden with Oak, Tick, Sweet Cicily, Wild Yam and Arrow-leaved Aster.
