The Cave of Elijah is a sacred pilgrimage place in Haifa. The legend goes that the prophet Elijah took shelter in this cave of Mount Horeb for the night and was awakened to talk to God. He is believed to have meditated here before challenging the priests of Ba'al. The location of the cave near the Haifa beach on the slopes of Mount Carmel is beautiful. You can reach the place by taking the stairs from Allenby Road near Haifa's Cable Car station. It is situated in a residential dwelling and opens to the public with separate sections for male and female visitors. You can see writings on the cave walls by the pilgrims in the past centuries.
