Hakodate is known for a number of slopes that offer dreamy views of the city and its harbour. The Cha Cha Nobori Daisan-saka is one such slope with a pathway that is indented around some of the most popular attractions around Hakodate.

The name Chachanobori comes from the Ainu language and translates to “Aged man”- the way people look when they climb this steep slope! With the Church of St John on the side, the view of the harbour and the rather old-world feel of the place, the slope does have its own charm. During winters the whole street transforms into a surreal place and is apt for a romantic walk.
