Hakodate Seikan Renrakusen Memorial Museum Mashumaru is accommodated in a ship that was operational right till it was moored at the Hakodate harbour in 1988. This ship was used for ferry rides between Aomori and Hakodate and was one of the most unique ships of its time.

Even today, you can see the steering room and the radio communication room that is still equipped with the original machines.  The green cabin of the ship is converted to an exhibition room where you can find detailed models and real parts of the ship. You can also find an exhibit that shows you just how the machine worked and the technology that was used for its operation.

If you love ships, walk into the main control room and see the expanse of the bay from its windows. Observe the “old-school” machines with a number of knobs, meters and a work station that completes the experience. The viewing deck is a highlight on its own and is an ideal place to click some panoramic photos of the bay and the skyline of Hakodate from a distance.
