The Nogi Shrine dates back to 1912 and is most popular for hosting the Nogi Shogun Memorial Festival on 21st December. You can find the tombs of the Nogi family here. The tombstones were selected by the Nogi general himself as he prepared to be murdered by the Emperor. The shrine itself survived the Second World War and the great fire (protected by a single camphor tree!).

Today the shrine, even though quite small, relives a rather turbulent past of the city. Come here to pay respects to the place and don’t forget to explore the surrounding area when you visit.
