Quiet a minimal stop around Hakodate, Suehirosho has the oldest concrete utility pole in the country. The 10-meter tall pole is still functioning and was installed by Hakodate electric power company. The pole has a pyramidal shape with a base of 47 square centimetres and a top end of 19.5 square centimetres. Even though it looks like nothing much, the use of concrete to make electric pole was a rather new idea for the time. The original poles were made from wood and in cases of fire were completely damaged. When you visit, don’t forget to read the information displayed nearby.
