Amidst the old heritage buildings around Hakodate, the statue of Gekko Kamen – a Japanese hero from the 1960s, is quite a change! The character itself was part of an anime and debuted in 1958 (the closest comparison would be America’s Batman or even Zorro and Superman).
The creator of this iconic character was Kohan Kawauchi who was from Hakodate. The statue consists of the moonlight mask in a white superhero suit ready to shoot with a gun in his right hand. Come here to see just how the famous character looked and to, in a way, remember a creative icon of the city.
