Hakone Open Air Museum - Review
Japan's first outdoor art museum against the backdrop of the picturesque Hakone mountains, is indeed a treat for your eyes. Spread over 70,000 square metres of lushness, this museum believes in promotion of sculpture as an environmental art. There are 120 permanent art installations from modern and contemporary sculptors and artists from all over the world, that are displayed here. The sculptures are not guarded by any fence, thus giving the visitors an opportunity to get a feel of the artist's message from close. There are also five indoor exhibitions, one of which is the popular Picasso's Pavillion, displaying 300 of the maestro's work. Nature provides a unique background to these pieces of art, as different seasons provide different framework for the sculptures.

Hakone Open Air Museum, Hakone Reviews
At first glance the price of entry to this museum looks punchy. I was very pleasantly surprised however, I'd go as far as to say this place is awesome. I love novelty and spent most of my visit walking around with a massive grin on my face snapping photos, and I'm not much of a photo-taker. Well recommended as adults alone or adults with kids - loads of fun kid stuff for them to play on. Fantastic Picasso exhibition. Definitely worth the ticket price.
My wife wants to give it four stars, but I found other things more interesting. Obviously it has to be nice day. There are some nice pieces. The Picasso museum is okay. I am not a real Picasso fan, of his art or the man. The exhibition gave me a sense of him cranking things out and the world values it because he did it. Maybe that what genus do, but paint on a cracked pottery is just paint on pottery, maybe. It is a beautiful countryside, so if nothing else enjoy the walk.
I am not a big museum fan so I had low expectations for Hakone. Not because I heard it was bad but just because I usually don't enjoy going to museums or galleries (I've always preferred more active attractions). This was the first time I've genuinely enjoyed an art museum. They key is definitely the fact that it's largely outside. Yes the weather needs to be in your favour, but even if it isn't, this is still a worthwhile place to check out. The foot bath was really fun and relaxing. The man who does the maintenance for it is extremely friendly and offers to take your picture. He also tells you the best spots to sit for warm or cool water. No matter your age or your interests, the Hakone Open Air Museum is a must see!
This place is definitely worth visiting. The artwork exposed along with the amazing location make for a unique setting. It takes 90 minutes to walk around and see the artwork. Like in any other art museum, don‘t miss the shop!
The Hakone open air museum has such an amazing array of modern art. The sculptures and Saturday are accompanied by an exceptional beautiful and serene setting. Offering beautiful views of the surrounding area, we got lucky enough to see rolling clouds flowing down the mountains. The Picasso museum is outstanding, such a treat getting to see such brilliant works of art.
