Temperatures in Haleakala National Park vary a lot due to its dramatic terrain. Temperatures here can range from a high of 27 degree celsius in Kipahulu to a low of -1degree celsius at the summit on one day itself. Rainfalls are frequent and can occur even on sunny days. Any month of the year is a good time to visit the Haleakala National Park. Weather here can be categorised according to the region:
Summit and Wilderness: Summit constitutes the high elevation region of this park. Weather here remains quite unpredictable and is characterised by cool temperatures, intense solar radiation, and rapidly moving clouds. The temperature here generally drops down to about 3 degree Fahrenheit for every 1,000 foot rise in elevation making the 10,023 foot (3,055 m) summit of Haleakala about 30 degree Fahrenheit (or 17 degree Celsius)cooler than the coast. The temperature here remains between 10-18 degree celsius.
Kipahulu: The weather in the Kipahulu area of the park remains more benign and milder in comparison to summit. Since it is a tropical region, the weather here tends to be humid and warm. Recurrent rainfalls are characteristic of this region. The daytime remains at an average of 70-80 degree Fahrenheit (21-27 degree celsius) year round. Nighttime lows average 65-75 degree Fahrenheit (18-24 degree celsius).
Do keep in mind that the entry to the Haleakala National Park depends a great deal on the weather conditions. Flash floods are a serious hazard in Kipahulu. Please check with the Visitor Centre before making a plan to visit here.
