Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum - Review

Where else will you be able to touch and feel 36 military jets, propeller driven aircraft and helicopters- all under one roof? The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is like a candy store for aviation enthusiasts. Home to many world war and cold war airplanes that have served in these legendary battles, these machines are immaculately maintained and many are in flying condition. There are fighter aircrafts on display, along side trainer airplanes, jet fighters, bombers and anti-submarine aircrafts too. There are summer workshops and camps held for kids here too. What’s more, you can even get the opportunity to fly in the rare Fairey Firefly, Westland Lysander or the famous Avro Lancaster if you become a member of the museum.

  • This military museum that is well worth the drive and regular visits. It's conveniently located outside of Hamilton and is also active Airfield. It houses in restores one of only two working flying Lancaster's. It's a very interesting museum with a fully outfitted gift shop and hanger with replicas models and even planes being restored. There's something for all ages here and one of the nicest aspects is the planes that you can climb into on the tarmac. It's well worth spending a day here and definitely bring the kids. Plenty of parking with wheelchair accessibility

  • I had a good time. My 7 year old did too. She enjoyed going into the planes and pushing buttons. I actually got in a plane too. It was a surprisingly cool experience! We didn't get to fly any of the planes (apparently you can do that), our visit was somewhat brief. Oh they have a cafeteria but the food is kinda expensive! If I recall correctly a hot dog was roughly about 7 dollars, for a hot dog!! If that price tag bothers you, maybe bring snacks or something. Finally they have a very nice gift shop. Lots of selection. Friendly staff, nice hangar building inside and out. Overall, a good time. :-)

  • Brought our children out for a visit not quite sure what to expect. All of the children (ages range 5-15) had a great time. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable. There is some interactive things for them to do and a reasonably priced cafe on site. Great for family outings.

  • Awesome place, I wasn't a huge fan of war planes but took my kids for a fun day out. When we got there I was awed by the collection they have and you can get to them up close. Signs says no touch but who can resist? Then the one and only Lancaster landed and then took off again after we had lunch in their cafe. I had a great time! My kids are 5 and 2 years old.

  • Great place to go if you're in the area and for any aviation nerds. The tour guides were wonderful and friendly. When we were there there was a tiny concert / gathering going on. Did not check out the café but I have heard good things about it. I recommend this place if you're in the area.
