Among the least destroyed structures of Hampi, the elephant stable is the major one. This is the place which was used as the place to keep the royal elephants. There are 11 tall domed chambers and some of these are also interconnected. The central chamber is large which is said to have been used by the artists and musicians during functions which included elephant processions.

The whole building is built in a symmetric way to the central hall and the pillars here resemble that of temples. The most contradictory feature here is the number of domes that depict the Muslim style of architecture. As you go inside the chambers, you will be able to see the metal hooks hanging from the inner walls that were used to tie the elephants and the manholes which were used by the mahouts to take the animals in and out. From here when you go beyond, you will reach the guards’ quarters and then beyond that the Ranga Temple.
