This incredible zoo’s faced quite a number of problems: poor management, WWI, WWII, frequent ownership transfer and debt crises. Fed up, they finally threw $110 million at it and now the amount of fun you’ll have here is enough to leave you with brain damage.

It’s divided into 7 distinct themes:

  • Zambezi: For the African Savannah with it’s own river ride and trading post
  • Gorilla Mountain: The apes are found at the end of a deeply informative evolution diorama.
  • Yukon Bay: The glory of Canada with wolves, prairie dos and bison.
  • Jungle Palace: Indian exotica with elephants, tigers, leopards and snakes.
  • Outback: Australia’s kangaroos, emus, wombats and the Pub-themed aviary.
  • Mullewap: Where kids can get up close and personal with the animals.

The winter snow and ice add whole lot of Christmassy activity! The best part about this zoo is that instead of outrightly defined zones, it seems to take you from world to world.

This place is not going anywhere near my list after tracking/reviewing footage for myself. Posted recently by the way (April 2017). This disgusting type of treatment should not exist in this day and age. Shame on you Hannover zoo....

This place isn't going anywhere near my list after tracking/viewing footage referenced in reviews for myself - published recently in April 2017 by the way folks. This disgusting treatment should not exist in this day and age. Shame on you Hannover Zoo....

  • Great zoo with well placed and themed regional areas that show the animals in an environment similar to their origin. It is definitely one of the best zoos I ever visited. The only downside and reason for not giving 5 stars are the high price but mostly the unfair pricing: their is only a reduced price for young adults between 19-24 but nothing for students, families or other normally reduced groups.

  • I've been to the San Diego Zoo, the L.A. Zoo, and the Bronx Zoo, and I enjoyed the Hannover Zoo the most. It looks more like an amusement park than a zoo, with great design like underwater polar bear viewing making unforgettable experiences. Two rides are included in admission price (Zambezi boat and summer-only toboggans). Informative feedings every half hour and amazing animal shows will make the day zip by: I was running around for five hours and didn't have time to eat.

  • No one should come to this zoo unless they like seeing baby elephants getting whip or beaten so they can be able to perform tricks. No zoo should do this!! I encourage all of you if you have any humanity to not go to this zoo!! Free the elephants and let them be free in the wild where they belong!

  • Its an amazing zoo. It almost has everything. The parrot, eagle and seal shows are excellent. The boat ride is too short but very nice. but one can take as many trips he can. The tigers are not appeared properly. Polar bear is a great attraction. The zoo is well organized and easy to follow. The rest rooms are well situated. You can take breaks as you can find many chairs to sit every where.

  • One of the most impressive zoos I have ever visited. A plethora different animals from all parts of the world, from Africa to Arctic, most of them staying in micro-environments close to their natural ones. Plenty opportunities for kids, e.g. playgrounds, animal quizzes, etc.
