Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, Hanoi Reviews
This theater showcases a classic Vietnamese art form, created by growers in the rice paddies of older. The live musicians that play during the overall performance are dressed in gorgeous play and costumes instruments indigenous to the place. The show is excellent, though we could not actually comply with the storyline (if certainly there was one). My teen aged son got a bit bored for that explanation. The show lasts under an hour, so the theater is correct in the midst of shopping, eating as well as sports areas. It is absolutely worth a visit.
Very easy to find, near the lake. The show was super fun (even though we didn’t understand what they were saying). I think it’s worth the money. The short ‘plays’ were easy enough to understand even without words. The music was beautiful & the people playing the instruments looked like they were having a good time. Would definitely recommend.
It is situated near the lake and very easy to locate. A to do thing when in Hanoi in Vietnam .Tickets were worth 100k Vietnamese dong per person. There are four shows in a day to choose from. Last one at 6 pm .The water puppet show is usually of one hour long with a total of 12 performances , details of which are given in pamflets. The music and singers were so soothing to ears that I dozed off for few minutes. The performances were beautiful and very creative. The singers use traditional instruments for the music and performances are based on local folklore . There is a cafe downstairs for a quick bite after the performances. Well maintained and neat place .
My wife and I went on a Friday evening. We had to book a few days in advance. Tickets were 100k vnd each and it was worth every dong! We had no clue what was being said in Vietnamese but it wasn't an issue at all because the show is made up of a series of short, simple plays. The traditional music played live to accompany the plays is excellent too. A must do in Hanoi. It was one of the attractions which we enjoyed most in our four weeks travelling Vietnam.
Without a doubt, the best $5 I will ever spend in my life! The show was charming and whimsical and kept our diverse group enchanted throughout the entire performance. My only criticism is it would be nice to have an English explanation of the story line, but I think this added to the show by allowing for our own interpretation based on our experience. Get your tickets early because it often sells out!
