Well known both at home and abroad, the Jile Si temple is the biggest Buddhist temple in Heilongjiang and was constructed in 1923. The entire place follows the chines temple style where every building is facing south and is built of blue bricks and glazed coloured tiles. The complex can be divided into three courtyards, namely left, middle and right. The heavenly king hall is the first after arrival through ‘The Mountain Gate’. Then comes the Hall of Mahavira, The Hall of three Saints and the Scripture Storing Tower. It also has a seven storey pagoda that overlooks the temple. With mantras being chanted inside every hall along with the aroma of incense sticks, one needn’t be Buddhist to experience the calm and serenity that this temple radiates.
