You ought to visit a site whose name is as romantic as this one. Located in the green Nacoochee valley below Yonah Mountain, this site has a legendary story behind it. As the story goes, Saute, a brave warrior belonging to the Chickasaw tribe and Nacoochee, daughter of a Cherokee chief, were in love. Since their tribe had enmity with each other, they fled one night as they found no hope of their love finding an acceptance. After living for few days in nearby Yonah Mountain, they got caught by Nachoochee's father who ordered Sautee to be thrown from the high cliffs of Yonah Mountain while Nacoochee was forced to watch. However, she broke off from her father and jumped with her lover. It is considered that the lovers tried to drag themselves to join and died in an embrace. After their death, the chief realised his flaw in inability to understand love and thus a mound was found here to immortalise their passion. Today, this site reminds us of love and its power to bring peace as it destroys itself like phoenix. The mound is beautiful and enveloped by lush greenery.
