Esplanade Park - Review

The Esplanade Park or the Esplanadi is a wonderful cultural and social place in Helsinki. As the name suggests it is a Boulevard park so rather than an enclosed park area, the landscaping has been done in an open walkway to make a wonderful place to hang out in.

While it is very popular with the locals, tourists will also find it to be a refreshing sight. Several neo-classical buildings surround the area. Green grass and colorful flowers have been added to embellish the look even more. There are low benches to sit even though you are welcome to sit on the grass as well. There are often kiosks selling ice cream and other such delicious foods that are sure to make kids of all ages happy. It is certainly a place worth visiting. You can take a picnic to sit on the grass and bask in the sun at Esplanadi.

Even if you do not intend to spend a lot of time here, do make sure to visit the place while on your way to Market Square which the esplanade joins with the city center. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Helsinki itinerary 2 days.

Esplanade Park, Helsinki Reviews

  • I love the Esplanadi! It's such a fun and vibrant park. Long and narrow, you can still appreciate the architecture of the buildings that line the adjacent streets, but you can also feel like you're in a completely different place as the park has its own hum of people walking around or picnicking, and of musical performers. A lovely place frequented by both tourists and locals. There's a gorgeous café-restaurant at the harbour end that makes for a beautiful sight both by day and night.

  • Come to listen to the street musicians and performers and people-watch tourists and locals alike from one of the esplanade’s classic old cafes or restaurants. The stage towards the harbour end of the esplanade frequently showcases local talent, from chamber orchestras to salsa dancers - just follow the crowds. In the winter you’ll find the trees dramatically encased in fairy lights. You can also enjoy the Christmas markets here at that time of year

  • Please like my review if helpful 👍 This park is a really nice place to sit and relax and possibly do some people watching during a hard day's sightseeing in Helsinki. Close to all the hustle and bustle of a busy city centre. A welcome green haven. Enjoy an ice-cream on a warm sunny day.

  • One of the first public parks of Helsinki, a beautiful stroll and a must visit place! Reminds me a lot of other European parks. During summer they have a lot of street sellers, musicians etc. I love to make a picnic in the grass of Esplanadi park, you can buy the food/drinks from a supermarket nearby. The bars/restaurants at Esplanadi are veeery expensive.

  • Nice park in the middle of town. Nice sculptures around. There were performers in the park as well. Very relaxing place to picnic.
