Helsinki Zoo - Review
The Helsinki Zoo is located on an island not far off the coast of the Helsinki Mainland. The zoo is spread all over the island and makes a spacious home for the 150 species of animals that live there. The zoo is perfect for a day trip with the family.
There is a huge variety in the species that have been conserved here. From wetland animals to tundra animals and even rainforest animals can all be found here. The habitat created for the tropical animals is especially remarkable since Finland is a cold country. Nevertheless you will be able to see mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and even insects belonging to various regions and species here.
In February they also play host to the art meets ice festival which is an ice sculpting event. If you intend to go around that time do not forget to check out this very interesting exhibition.

Love this zoo. Amazing place with great animals well cared for. Very important information and conservationist attitude. Amazing to reach kids and adults alike about conservation. Cafes and plenty of places to eat. I would recommend and visit again anytime
Visited Cats Night in September. Cool visit with food viewings. Enjoyed the whole place while spending time there. Lovely to see animals so well taking care of. Big surrounding areas and good vegetation as well calm corners to hide in from the people.
Annual pass holders: get discounts if you renew your pass within 1 month after expiry. Get there early in the morning for 9-10am or 12-1pm feeding times. Better still, go later for evening feeding times after 5-6pm with far less crowd. Wear sturdy & comfy shoes as the terrain is hilly & undulating. Parents with toddlers, consider taking a pram/ buggy or child carrier. Korkeasaari = High Island!
I visited the zoo at Easter 2018, it has a very impressive entrance as you walk over a long bridge to enter the zoo properly. The sea was quite icy at the time of my visit and so it looked very beautiful. You then enter the grounds of the zoo and the signage is very good, it takes you on an easy loop around the island. We saw lots of lovely animals and we were lucky as a number of the large animals Tigers, Lions, Bears etc were up and about and we got some great photo opportunities. I would highly recommend this zoo for a visit and think it would also be great to visit in the Summer as I think the experience would be different. This deserves a visit for every season.
There is lot of different animals and some animals are extinct from they own habitat. You can see from their front page time when they are feeding the animals. One year card is cheap. Bonus note: there is lots of Pokémon Go stops
