The Market Square - Review

This Market Square in Helsinki is an amazing place to take in the sights and sounds of the city. The Market square is also obviously a great place to shop or hang out with friends. Surrounded by older buildings and with the cobblestone paths that take you back in time, this place is certainly a must visit in Helsinki.

The market here is fresh and vibrant. Fruits, vegetables and most importantly fish can be found in colorful abundance. Even if you don’t want to buy any fresh produce, walking down the tiny paths amidst the colorful umbrellas is a lot of fun.

There are also several restaurants and kiosks everywhere. Several out-door cafes dot the place in case you want to stop by for a bite to eat. Do check out the fish soup at one of these street food joints as the seafood is as fresh as it gets and simply delicious. There is a wide variety of food joints to choose from as well. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Helsinki itinerary 2 days.

The Market Square, Helsinki Reviews

  • Nice open market. Crowded with people. Lot of stands with souvenirs. More expensive than rest of Helsinki. Half of the sellers looks like they are Russian, not friendly when you ask something and don't speak English. The other half of them speak very good English and very kind, friendly and helpful. Other part of the market is for ferries. Huge choices of excursions with ferry boats. Kind staff will explain everything you ask about tour.

  • Nice and central square. In summer time there is a food market and they also serve salmon soup and other cooked dishes. Very convenient if you are on your way ti take the ferry

  • Very crowded place. Place to take the ferry boat to visit other islands. So many souvenir shop and food stall there. Good place for grilled sea food. Almost every food stall sell same Sea food. One meal cost about €10. Grilled salmon is best.

  • A lot of interesting things can be found here like knives and forks out of animal bones or amazing drawings. There is also many different choices of food from Finnish traditional culinary to things like a hot-dog. Also the spinning thing next to the place is a lot of fun and great for taking pictures from the top of it.

  • I have seen some things that were quite unusual for me in this market. It was hard to decide which was nice to eat. By the time I got there in the afternoon, most stalls were already close. I believe I had missed the Finnish food here. Nevertheless, I boarded Royal Cruise Ship from Market Square.
