The Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere is a must visit attraction that showcases the Hervey Bay’s heritage and the importance of the whales in the region. Highlights of the centre include an immersive "underwater encounter" with humpback whales.

There is also a full sized replica of a whale skeleton. There are several interactive displays that tell the story of the natural history of the region. The theatre show draws visitors into a mesmerising world of the natural beauty of Fraser Coast. Visitors also learn about the legends and traditions of the Indigenous Butchulla People.

  • Fabulous information on the whales, K'gari Fraser Island and the coast. Interactive displays for the kids. Travelling roadshow display in the second area (changes regularly) currently a controversial artist creating the opportunity for some interesting dialogue. The sculptures outside are excellent too. Enjoy!

  • Amazing place for the whole family. The kids lived learning about local sea life and the adults enjoyed the art gallery.

  • This is a fabulous stop. The WWI exhorting which is currently on is well worth the visit. The permanent dismay of the history of Fraser Island is fabulous.

  • Friendly and helpful Staff, lots to see here & information on the local areea, Discovery Sphere is located in Fraser Coast Cultural Centre on Old Maryborough Rd, There is information on the Fraser Coast, local area, Butchulla culture, Fraser Island-K'gari, marine life, interactive consoles theatrette with film showing Welcome to Country, Parking is in the car park on the corner of Charles St & Old Maryborough Rd, Which also houses Hervey Bay Regional Gallery with 2 gallery spaces exhibitions change every 6 weeks. They sre open 7 days week 10am - 4pm

  • Wow, really enjoyed the exhibitions, the WW1 photo gallery was really touching and the ocean one is such a colourful story about the whales and other marine animals in the region.
