Its Hawaiian name Moku Ola means “Island of Life”, since the waters of the island was known to have healing powers. It was believed that the waters could cure any sick person if he swam around one of the rocks at the eastern inlet of the island. There is a 15-foot stone tower, which is a remnant of the past, which is popular spot amongst the locals to jump into the ocean from.

Coconut Island Reviews & Ratings

  • The county has done such a great job cleaning this place up and providing beautiful access to the ocean. I appreciate how clean the shoreline is, and the views cannot be beat. It's awesome to see how many people utilize this beach park.

  • Extremely well maintained and beautiful. Breathtaking views of the bay and the mountains. Also a great place to swim without worrying about right water, as it is sheltered by the breakwater. There is a stone tower that the locals dive from.

  • We had the opportunity to camp overnight and learn from the resident scientists. We did a plankton lab and learned SO MUCH. The next day we had a tour of the island. It was an amazing experience.

  • Loved this place! Visitors need to be mindful not to put out cigarettes and leave empty cans on the beautiful grounds and trees. Please remember to be respectful of the area!

  • Great teragami inlet to island conservatory. State park, carefully kept to an isolated cove of island fish and wildlife preserve. A modern bridge brinks the island to the isolation and privacy ventured there. Beautifully kept.
