Himeji City Zoo - Review
Located in the Hyogo Prefecture of the city, the zoo is settled at the base of Himeji castle and is one of the busiest place in the city. Yes, the place literally see hundreds of visitors everyday and is also considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is decked in old style, reminiscing of the architecture that were in fashion years ago. Established in 1951, the zoo is home to a range of animals that are taken care of here well. You can see pink flamingos, tigers, bears, chimpanzees and what not on your visit here. The authority has done their best to keep its exactly the way it started and hence, don’t expect it to be a natural habitat that we normally see nowadays. Regardless, for families, a visit to this zoo is must!

Himeji City Zoo, Himeji Reviews
Wish I would have read reviews before going. But had gone to Himeji Castle and the gardens and both were so beautiful that me and my friend thought to go. Within 30 secs you realize the horror that is going on. This is not to say the staff do not care. They do. It is just the cages and design are depressing. I am a big fan of learning zoos such as the one in San Fran, US. But this has little laminated signs and the animals barely have enough room to walk around. If you live locally demand the government do a massive upgrade or close this down.
Nice place to take children... Once can spend about 1.5hrs there without getting bored. Its a well kept zoo with many shaded areas to rest in during a hot day.
Terrible place. Don’t go in. This is just animal cruelty. All the animals caged up in tiny cages with barely any space to move around. There are two lions in 5 by 5 metre cages. Such a disgrace...
Do not go there ! Calling this place a zoo is a disgrace ! I have seen student apartments bigger than the cages of the animals. It's disgusting and very sad to see the animals like that. They all look so depressed. The animals have barely enough space to move, let alone play. The birds are all in small cages less than a few square metres, they have absolutely no space to fly. They try to show the most animal possible in a small area and they do so by making them live in terrible conditions. It's close to animal cruelty. I really regret going there. I felt bad for all these animals and ashamed of having paid to see them like that.
Like everyone else says. Really sad, stressed and depressed animals. Tiny steel cages with no habitat for giant animals like bears and such. Would not recommend visiting at all. If you're looking for a zoo the one in Ueno Tokyo is a million times better and still extremely cheap. The animals there are looked after so much better.
