Located in the Hyogo Prefecture of the city, the zoo is settled at the base of Himeji castle and is one of the busiest place in the city. Yes, the place literally see hundreds of visitors everyday and is also considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is decked in old style, reminiscing of the architecture that were in fashion years ago. Established in 1951, the zoo is home to a range of animals that are taken care of here well. You can see pink flamingos, tigers, bears, chimpanzees and what not on your visit here. The authority has done their best to keep its exactly the way it started and hence, don’t expect it to be a natural habitat that we normally see nowadays. • Wish I'd read reviews, just happened upon this nightmare while wandering through the castle grounds. Absolutely repulsive place. The animals are extremely distressed and no one is batting an eyelid. I've been getting by fine with the little bit of Japanese I know but the staff don't seem to process "refund" in any language. Disgusted I funded this place in anyway with my entry fee. Shut it down NOW.

  • worst zoo i went ever to...some animals have nearly NO space, animals whose need water have too less and everything looks old and dirty...the animals look very sick and nearly to their end...what the hell? entry is cheap(200yen) but please dont visit it,its not worth and shouldnt be supported! just go straight to the castle and skip this please

  • I'd like to give 0 stars.. if you like to see poor unhappy animals please visit this zoo. i almost cried when i saw this poor lonley elephant. polar bears lying in the heat of 20°C (i visited the zoo in november) with no AC or cold water. i don't want to imagine how they suffer during summer. Hippos lying in a dirty water tank so small they can't even turn around. I wish i'd never visit this zoo, it really broke my heart. hope it will be closed asap.

  • This park is really the worst thing I have seen in Japan. The poor animals have tiny cages and only concrete or sand floors. Don't go there and support this animal cruelty with your money, even if its just 200 yen.

  • Nice place to take children... Once can spend about 1.5hrs there without getting bored. Its a well kept zoo with many shaded areas to rest in during a hot day.
