Great info on the Bavarian Royal house. Works as a needed step to better understand who built the castles around and why. Museum could be better organized though as it lacks to somehow explain the context vs. other neighboring powers and Bayern influence on the other german regions.
Worth a walk around if you have time. You'll learn about Ludwig's history and his forefathers. Plan for around an hour to get a proper look around.
The castles in the area are accessed via timed tour only, this is the only place you can come to browse the history of the two castles and the history of the area. There is a lot here but it will take a great deal of reading to get the most out of it, probably not a good place for young children although there are a lot of exhibits to look at and a gift shop.
They did a good job with the exposition and showing the history of the Bavarian Kings, however I don't think it's worth visiting as you can get better understanding of the nobles' live by visiting the two castles.
Very informative, with a complete history of Bavaria. Interesting displays. Be prepared to spend several hours to really get everything out of it.
