King David Kalakaua, the last ruling King of Hawaii, reigned over the state from 1874 to 1891 (till his death) and along with his wife Queen Kapiolani was considered one of the foremost leaders.
His contribution to get Japanese immigrants to Hawaii was one of the highlight of his work- securing a place in Hawaii for around 2 million Japanese immigrants!
The statue made by Native Hawaiian sculptor Sean Browne, stands near the Kalakaua Avenue and is worth a small visit during your stay in Honolulu.
