This long tunnel linking Hualien County and Taitung County goes on for 2660 meters. Opened to the public in 2007, it took nearly six years to build the tunnel, to burrow through the mountains and hills of the coastal range. Today, visitors to the tunnel may experience a nearly hypnotic drive through a gently curving and nearly unchanging road. Some have said the experience is almost dreamlike. Most people would not consider such a place as a tourist attraction, but they would be missing out on one of the best hidden gems on the island.
