This is a fortress that was mostly built during the 11th and 12th centuries except the later additions and modifications. The land on which it is built is significant as it was once the frontier dividing the Christian and Muslim lands. There were originally three towers named Homage Tower, Tower of the Queen and the Chapel of Virgin Mary. Out of these only 2 still survive.
The layout of the castle is unique, the reason being the rocky terrain on which it had to be built. The fort is actually a collection of single building covered up by a ‘curtain wall’ to make it look like one. The whole monument is in a typical Romanesque style and still maintains the dignity that it is known for. The beauty of this monument is the proof of the name given to it which says “The Kingdom of Heaven. The original structure was marked by thick walls and as many as 8 towers which later broke down with time and have been restored time and time again.

Beautiful castle in the middle of nowhere, up in the mountains with great views. You can climb up and get great views from the tower. Well preserved and the ticket includes entry to a small church in the local village. Recommended. Especially if you love old castles
Very interesting place, castle is well maintained and the view are spectacular. Check the hours before you head there they have very strange opening hours.
Impressive Castle in the middle of the Pre-Pyrinees. The entrance ticket costs 4'5€ without guide or audio-guide. The Castle itself is very nice and quite renovated. The views from it are amazing. The Castle has been taken as movie Castle many times even by Hollywood movies. It's worth driving there and spend 1-2 hours and imagine how was the middle age life. I always take my foreign friends there and get delighted with it. Undoubtedly it's a must see monument of Spain.
Excellent guide and even though it was our third time this year we still enjoyed it.
one of the best preserved castles in Europe from the reconquest of Spain. Very reasonable admission fee. Very interesting guided tours available in English
