Canyon Overlook, Hurricane Reviews

  • This is a fairly easy, family friendly hike. It's a little over a mile and takes an hour round trip. The initial elevation is gained at the trail head, but quickly levels off. Keep your eyes peeled for mountain goats! Best time to come here is either at sunset or sunrise. We did both, and I preferred the sunrise - watching the sun peer into the surrounding canyon as it adds hues of burgundy to the already rusty colored walls is a spectacular way to start your morning.

  • What a fun trail! Slot canyons, colorful cliff walls, a hanging cat-walk, and grand vistas. We came early season so there weren't crowds. Parking not too bad either.

  • This was easy and fun to do with the teens. Lots of stair like areas. It only took us about an hour total.

  • Canyon Overlook Trail is a great little hike outside of Zion Canyon. To reach the trailhead, drive UT-9 past the visitor center and Canyon Junction to the tunnel. Immediately after coming out of the tunnel is a small parking lot on the right. If it's full, go a little further up the road for additional parking. The trail itself is only half a mile and moderate in difficulty. It's not steep but there are some steep dropoffs. Looking down from tge trail, you can see the very narrow Pine Creek Canyon. The trail ends at a wonderful view of the lower end of Zion Canyon. You are literally on top of the Great Arch at this point but can't see it from here. This was our last hike in Zion and we really enjoyed it.

  • Great view of the canyon - especially at sunset and after dark when you can see the cars all zigzagging up to the tunnel entrance. However, be careful as the trail is rough and returning in the dark is tricky - carry a flashlight, preferably head-mounted.
