Golconda Fort - Review
This grand fortress dates back to the early reigns of the Yadavas and the Kakatiyas, but it gained its acclaim and fame from the time of Qutub Shah Kings. The word literally means shepherd’s hill in local language. The original mud fort was rebuilt by the Qutub Shahi Kings in a psna of 62 years and is one of the most popular forts of India. The unbelievable acoustics, palaces, ingenious water supply systems and the renowned Fateh Rahben gun- a giant cannon is always a fact of wonder for the visitors. The uniquely designed fortress has facility of noticing slightest of the sound created at the entrance right up to the court of the King.
The citadel is built on a 120m-high granite hill and surrounded by crenulated ramparts constructed from large masonry blocks. Outside the citadel stands another crenulated rampart, with a perimeter of 11 kilometres and yet another wall beyond this. The massive gates were studded with iron spikes to obstruct war elephants.
Naya Qila (new fort) is home to a magnificent 400-year-old baobab tree (hatiyan ka jhad: elephant tree), with a circumference of 27m, said to have been brought from Abyssinia by Arab traders. The crumbling rampart here has great views of the fort and tombs. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Hyderabad itinerary 2 days.

Nice place of our country.... Visit here for more information and enjoy the place. It situated at Hyderabad. You have to spend whole day for more enjoy this place. Recommend time is October to February. Because in summer the Hyderabad city is very hot, you can't enjoy here in summer. See here the wonder, that you clap near the entrance and the sound of your clapping is hear at very much distance that you can't imagine. Overall a nice historical place.
One will need a guide to get the full understanding of the fort and its surroundings. In fact always take a guide when you visit forts. It brings the fort alive and takes you back to those days. Amazing structure and the thought behind each of the structures. One must: -Carry water bottles -Avoid going in summers (unless you want to lose weight fast) -There is a lot of climb and even the descent is not easy Parking is also available nearby.
A good place for trekking lovers and people who love to see old places it took 5hrs for me to see whole fort. I suggest to take water and wear comfortable shoes to climb and walk. If you are visiting on a sunny day take an umbrella or cap with you at sunny day this place will be too hot. I went on a rainy day it was awesome. Entry ticket is just 15rps. You can find a small canteen at top it's better to take some snacks with you if you need. U can find many hotels and shops near to golkonda Fort. Have a nice trip good luck.
Golconda fort is a very big spacious military and residential area of the erstwhile kings - both Hindu and Muslims. It's architecture is unique in the sense cool breeze is captured in all the places including caves and stables for horses. It has its own water supply and is located on high shepherd' s hill. It is strategically located and had many security layers including a water canal covering it from all sides as a first line of defence. However, aesthetic and artistic sense -. wise it has no comparison with the Agra Fort or the Red Fort of Delhi. The latter two forts are much too superior to the Golconda Fort.
Great fort in Hyderabad. Its mostly in ruins but some parts have been preserved. Fabulous history and great architecture. One can hear various sound effects. Great view of Hyderabad city from top. Good light and sound show.
