This grand fortress dates back to the early reigns of the Yadavas and the Kakatiyas, but it gained its acclaim and fame from the time of Qutub Shah Kings. The word literally means shepherd’s hill in local language. The original mud fort was rebuilt by the Qutub Shahi Kings in a psna of 62 years and is one of the most popular forts of India. The unbelievable acoustics, palaces, ingenious water supply systems and the renowned Fateh Rahben gun- a giant cannon is always a fact of wonder for the visitors. The uniquely designed fortress has facility of noticing slightest of the sound created at the entrance right up to the court of the King.

The citadel is built on a 120m-high granite hill and surrounded by crenulated ramparts constructed from large masonry blocks. Outside the citadel stands another crenulated rampart, with a perimeter of 11 kilometres and yet another wall beyond this. The massive gates were studded with iron spikes to obstruct war elephants.

Naya Qila (new fort) is home to a magnificent 400-year-old baobab tree (hatiyan ka jhad: elephant tree), with a circumference of 27m, said to have been brought from Abyssinia by Arab traders. The crumbling rampart here has great views of the fort and tombs.

Golconda Fort, Hyderabad Reviews - Write a Review

  • Very old fort. Fully crowded on weekend. Small events will be held sometimes. Evening lighting is awesome to see. Roads very small to bring big vehicles. U need to have much energy to cover entire fort. Minimum time need to spend is 2 hrs to see. Be careful at some places, stones may get slippery. Best place to have pics here

  • It's a unique monument located in Hyderabad. Though it is a historical place, well maintained and very clean. You will exhaust while climbing. So, the best time to visit is in the evening and better to avoid climbing in the sun. Take water bottle and carry your own food to have on the top of the fort. Once you reach the top, you will definitely enjoy the environment and view from the top is awesome. You will love it. There is a drinking water facility before the MAHANKAALI TEMPLE and the other one is in the middle. Be careful in the sun. Finally, it's been a tremendous experience journey.

  • Awesome fort, huge, Historical place. Very prestigious Fort of the Nizam's. Depicts the living styles of kings many a centuries ago. Amazing views from the fort. Climbing to top of the fort gives a excellent view of the surroundings. Nice beautiful garden. Excellent atmosphere.

  • A good place to spend a couple of hours. The best time to visit the place is on week days and also in the morning as soon as it opens around 9 as it won't be as hot as it is a few hours later and it would be less crowded. Though evening time is also good to avoid the sun but the place would be really crowded. It's always good to carry a bottle of water along with you as you might get tired by the time you reach top.

  • Its an amazing historic place to visit. The top view is awesome! You need to be energetic to climb up to the top. The view is awesome. Better to carry a bottle of water with you. Better maintenance will be great or else after 10 years down the line there will be lots of names on the walls!. This place will reminds you of how Good and civilized the Indians were in ancient times and how it has become so uncivilized now .
