About Golconda Fort, Hyderabad
This grand fortress dates back to the early reigns of the Yadavas and the Kakatiyas, but it gained its acclaim and fame from the time of Qutub Shah Kings. The word literally means shepherd’s hill in local language. The original mud fort was rebuilt by the Qutub Shahi Kings in a psna of 62 years and is one of the most popular forts of India. The unbelievable acoustics, palaces, ingenious water supply systems and the renowned Fateh Rahben gun- a giant cannon is always a fact of wonder for the visitors. The uniquely designed fortress has facility of noticing slightest of the sound created at the entrance right up to the court of the King.
The citadel is built on a 120m-high granite hill and surrounded by crenulated ramparts constructed from large masonry blocks. Outside the citadel stands another crenulated rampart, with a perimeter of 11 kilometres and yet another wall beyond this. The massive gates were studded with iron spikes to obstruct war elephants.
Naya Qila (new fort) is home to a magnificent 400-year-old baobab tree (hatiyan ka jhad: elephant tree), with a circumference of 27m, said to have been brought from Abyssinia by Arab traders. The crumbling rampart here has great views of the fort and tombs.

Golconda Fort, Hyderabad Reviews
Golconda fort is standing tall amid beautiful city of Hyderabad. Merely by looking at it , it gives you the glimpse of Grandeur of its history. It is a popular attraction among visitors and locals alike. A show of light and sound run in its premise in evening which uses the fort itself as a screen and using different light and sound in sync it tells story of this fort and Kingdoms related to it. It is worth watching. Local guides are always available which will help you to understand the details of fort and its stories. Worth giving your time.
It was a day out there. Most of the part of the fort has been damaged and the restoration work is under progress. However, the view of the entire city from the top is amazing. Remember to empty your water bottle before entering otherwise either you'll have to throw the bottle or you'll have to pay 20 rupees. This is to avoid people throwing plastic bottles inside the fort. Sad to see that still people had trashed the place with water bottles. The entry fees are 15 rupees for Indian and 200 rupees for any other foreign national. Constructed almost in the similar manner as the other forts in India such as Agra fort. Definitely enjoyed the visit. It's worth going there if you are traveling to Hyderabad.
Very nice and lovly historic place to visit with friends and family. You have to make the tickets which are very cheap for us. The fort has its own magical history. Beautified with nature and its architecture. Very large place inside the boundary. You have to move to a high altitudes by stone stairs only. Very beautiful landscape. Very enjoyable place.
So majestically spread is Golconda fort that you'd love to spend an entire day here. It's so much fun spending your time climbing up the top of the hill and have a breathtaking view of Hyderabad. While climbing down, you need to be little careful as steps are little tilted and slippery at times. Overall a nice experience!!!
If you have enough energy to climb the hill and you love heights and scenic views, this place was a perfect one. The entire Hyderabad city can be seen from here. The silence, history and the construction of the fort was brilliant. The entry price is too low for this amazing place. This place has a good things that people even can learn a lot about traditions and culture. It attracts so many tourists.
