Golconda Fort - Review

This grand fortress dates back to the early reigns of the Yadavas and the Kakatiyas, but it gained its acclaim and fame from the time of Qutub Shah Kings. The word literally means shepherd’s hill in local language. The original mud fort was rebuilt by the Qutub Shahi Kings in a psna of 62 years and is one of the most popular forts of India. The unbelievable acoustics, palaces, ingenious water supply systems and the renowned Fateh Rahben gun- a giant cannon is always a fact of wonder for the visitors. The uniquely designed fortress has facility of noticing slightest of the sound created at the entrance right up to the court of the King.

The citadel is built on a 120m-high granite hill and surrounded by crenulated ramparts constructed from large masonry blocks. Outside the citadel stands another crenulated rampart, with a perimeter of 11 kilometres and yet another wall beyond this. The massive gates were studded with iron spikes to obstruct war elephants.

Naya Qila (new fort) is home to a magnificent 400-year-old baobab tree (hatiyan ka jhad: elephant tree), with a circumference of 27m, said to have been brought from Abyssinia by Arab traders. The crumbling rampart here has great views of the fort and tombs. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Hyderabad itinerary 2 days.

    very nice

  • Not much crowded place. But one of the historical place must watch in Hyderabad. Guides will charge for Indians around 700 rupees to guide you and around 1500 rupees for foreigners. All the things used i. This place has been moved to Salary Jung museum. The wall have ears concept structures will be the most attractive here. King used to give these type of rooms to visitors and listen what they were talking about king. All over great experience.

  • Quite a place for anyone with an interest in Hyderabad's history. Access is easy. Some useful facts: Guides are entertaining, not necessarily accurate in there narrative. Every guide has his own take! Light and sound show is OK but mosquitoes WILL ruin it for you. Get plenty of repellents to enjoy the show. Photo sessions near the sunset hour are good. Just shoot away to glory on social media The top is tiring to reach. Arm yourself with fluids. I would suggest fill lime juice in bottles before trekking the stairs. You can even buy some at the entrance.

  • This is a good tourist attraction in Hyderabad. The fort stands in it's full glory spread across many kilometres of area. This is very well maintained by Authorities. Their are guides available to tell you the history of fort. In evening they conduct light and sound show, first show in English & second in Telugu or Hindi on different days. This show is one kind of experience, a must try. You can climb till top and take a look around, their are multiple smaller structures worth visiting. If history and historical architecture interests you, this is the place to go.

  • Went back here after many years. Visited this place earlier during childhood. Really nice and intriguing fort here especially the acoustics. The echo and sound transmission design and the sound through the pillars of secrecy were amazing! The guide named Ali was very helpful and took photos almost like a pro. His history knowledge is OK but practically what's interesting he was able to guide through. Worth visiting at leisure👍. We had to leave a bit early though.

  • I initially wound up at Golconda on a weekend, only to find a serpentine queue stretching way out onto the street. Decided to return on a weekday morning, and it was totally worth it. The acoustics of the fort are brilliant, with whispering walls etc., and the gates are also imposing.  The climb to the top is moderate, with nice views. There are guides whose service prices vary based on whether you need them to accompany you right to the top, or leave you at the foot of the climb after showing you around the lower complex (approx. 1000 and 500 Rs respectively, if memory serves) We hired one, and it was well worth it.
