About Golconda Fort, Hyderabad
This grand fortress dates back to the early reigns of the Yadavas and the Kakatiyas, but it gained its acclaim and fame from the time of Qutub Shah Kings. The word literally means shepherd’s hill in local language. The original mud fort was rebuilt by the Qutub Shahi Kings in a psna of 62 years and is one of the most popular forts of India. The unbelievable acoustics, palaces, ingenious water supply systems and the renowned Fateh Rahben gun- a giant cannon is always a fact of wonder for the visitors. The uniquely designed fortress has facility of noticing slightest of the sound created at the entrance right up to the court of the King.
The citadel is built on a 120m-high granite hill and surrounded by crenulated ramparts constructed from large masonry blocks. Outside the citadel stands another crenulated rampart, with a perimeter of 11 kilometres and yet another wall beyond this. The massive gates were studded with iron spikes to obstruct war elephants.
Naya Qila (new fort) is home to a magnificent 400-year-old baobab tree (hatiyan ka jhad: elephant tree), with a circumference of 27m, said to have been brought from Abyssinia by Arab traders. The crumbling rampart here has great views of the fort and tombs.

Its an amazing historic place to visit. The top view is awesome! You need to be energetic to climb up to the top. The view is awesome. Better to carry a bottle of water with you. Better maintenance will be great or else after 10 years down the line there will be lots of names on the walls!. This place will reminds you of how Good and civilized the Indians were in ancient times and how it has become so uncivilized now .
A historical heritage, the fort is built from top to bottom not from bottom to top. As per the guide it was a sale point for diamonds in olden days. The merchants were arriving here for sale of diamonds but disguised in the name of horse seller to protect them from robbers. The balance diamond meant for sale were sold at cheaper rates to resident sultan. The fort is built only with roof, not having any bifurcation wall. It is done by hanging curtain. Nicely ventilated. The lighting arrangement is by lighting a candle having sufficient diamonds placement for sufficient lights. The sound effect is excellent. it is learnt that, if a person is Quite speaks at one corner the sound is heard at other corner very clearly through walls. Hence it is said that the wall can hear and transfer the intelligence to other corner. The palace is also built for hot water plant to bathing tubs.
Awesome view of Hyderabad city from top of fort. The fort is spread over a large area and climbing a number of steps to the top is tiring but totally worth it. Better to visit on not so sunny days. You can see the boundary of the fort around from the top and it's a great experience to see the old (fort) and the new (city skyscrapers) side by side. Although I hated the walls filled with names. We should really learn to protect our monuments and not deface them.
It's a beautiful historic place in Hyderabad. If you're a tourist, you must visit this place alone, with your friends or family. It's huge covering the area of approximately 3 kilometres. Reach on its zenith and you will feel you are on top of the world. You can view the entire city from above. Beautiful garden full of greenery. If you hold a passion for photography, this is the place you must visit.
Awesome historical place. Need to climb hundreds of steps but it's worth spending energy. Availing a guide for 300 -500 rupees would make u understand the history of Golconda fort. Spend 2-3 hours and watch the place. Definitely it remains in our memories for long. Evening, u can attend light & sound show which will explain the history of Golconda in a fantastic way.
