Located 20 kilometres from Hyderabad, the Himayat Sagar Lake was constructed towards the end of the Nizam rule and was built to protect the city from floods and to harvest potable drinking water. The lake also sources ground water reservoir and plays a crucial role in preserving water. The lake was named after after Himayat Ali Khan, the youngest son of the last Nizam of Hyderabad and is loved for its raw ambience with beautiful tree cover that is home to many birds including flamingos and pelicans.
The place is an ideal picnic spot especially if you are looking for a rejuvenating experience and love hiking and exploring. A road runs nearby that is perfect for a short drive around the lake during sunset.
