About Spanish Mosque, Hyderabad

Built in classic Spanish design and architecture by the Paigah family, Begumpet Mosque was completed in the early 20th century. The mosque takes its influences from the Cathedral Mosque of Cordoba (Spain) and the Jama Masjid (Karnataka) and combines it with beautiful Moorish art work.

What is unique about this place is that it even resembles a Church- combining the highlights of some of the best design layouts of many cultures and countries. Notice the octagonal domes, truncated 8-sided pyramids, minarets that are placed at the corners of the structure and the Moorish arches in the prayer hall. Everything comes full circle in the Begumpet Mosque- be it design, influences, religion or art. The Mosque can accommodate 3000 worshippers at one time!

The beautiful quotes from Quran that are showcased in calligraphy in the Prayer Hall fulfils the essence of the Mosque and is a piece of art in itself!

Spanish Mosque, Hyderabad Reviews

  • Moorish architecture with spires instead of domes... Relatively small and would be easily missed from the road... It is quite well preserved and maintained though, from what I saw.

  • One of the most beatiful masjid in and around. Masha Allah !! They have huge parking space and wazu area. As you step in the carpet puffiness makes you feel light. Masjid has beatiful architecture inside and out.

  • he construction of the mosque was started by fifth Paigah Amir, H.E. Nawab Mohammed Fazaluddin Khan, Iqbal Ud Daula, Sir Vicar Ul Umra in 1900 (due to his sudden demise in 1902) and completed by his heir and elder son H.E Nawab Sultan Ul Mulk Bahadur, VI Amir of Paigah through Princess Jahandarunissa Begum, Lady Vicar Ul Umra, After his return from Spain, as he was very much inspired by the Cathedral–Mosque of Córdoba. The exterior and interior of the Spanish Mosque is mostly similar to the Cathedral–Mosque of Córdoba in Spain and Jama Masjid Gulbarga, Karnataka, India. It shows state-of-the-art interiors and architecture.

  • First of all it is a very spacious and beautiful masjid. There is ample parking space for all the visitors. The scenery is very majestic with tall minars and very much similar to tutkish style. Inside of the masjid is very clean and well maintained. My visit has been very peaceful and I am happy to share with you all and i would definitely recommend you to visit this place.

  • Best environment, full parking space. Friday namaz time is 02:00 PM.
