Hyeres Tourism

Hyeres is an inland town in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region known for its earliest seaside health resorts in France. Unlike many coastal towns, the city is about 4 kms away from the sea. Nicknamed as “Les Palmiersâ€, the city is said to be the Palm Capital of the world with trees spreading across its terrain.
The history of Hyères dates back to the Greek and Roman era. But the main town was developed during the middle ages, especially during the 12th century when the Porte Massillon Tower of Saint Blaise, a Knights Templar commander was built. The town received great importance as a place for tourism when personalities like Queen Victoria, Robert Louis Stevenson and D.H.Lawrence visited Hyeres in the 19th century.
The old town located on slopes of the Casteou hill shines like a gem in Southern France, offering magnificent panoramic views of its medieval beauty. Besides the beautiful boulevards with rows of palm trees, well-cropped gardens and ancient villas, the town is famous for its exotic vegetation, including fruits and vegetables cultivated around the town̢۪s fertile agricultural lands.
The marinas, exotic sandy beaches and sea side health resorts of Hyeres is what makes this forgotten city a great place to visit.
While planning for Hyères, also add The Golden Isles of Mediterranean: Porquerolles, Port Cros, Le Levant, in your itineraries, which lie just off the coast. They attract a number of nature lovers every year, owing to its eco-friendliness of the islands and wonderful retreats among clear waters and scented marquis.
