The Kangla Fort is also referred to as the Palace of Kangla and is situated on the banks of the Imphal River of which only the ruins remain on this day. The existence of the fort dates back to 33 A.D. when the Nongda Lairen Pakhangba, the mythical God-king of Manipur ascended the throne. It was then eventually developed and renovated by the successive kings who were the rulers of the place. The Kangla fort has been open for public viewing since 2003 and it is the historical and archeological significance that attracts a lot of people from far and wide.
